Pincushion magnet

I found an old speaker so I decided to take the magnets out of it to make a pincushion. I found a scrap of flannel and some batting, I sewed it to the shape of the magnet and added the batting.  Now I can either drop the pins on it or stick them in it. That option truly comes in handy when removing pins while sewing!!!

Elsa dress prep work

I'm finally getting around to cutting out the fabric for my daughter's Elsa dress, I just discovered that I bought the wrong width of fabric (45 in instead of 60). Those of you who sew know what a big issue this is when you are making a wide skirt.  Lucky for me, my daughter is small so I was able to cheat it by cutting the wideness down by a little and shorten the length due to her height.  I sure hope that it works out like I THINK that it will....

Bargain fabric

While shopping in my local resale shop, I found this bag of fabric for $3.  I purchased it thinking that I certainly can find something to use it for.  When I got home and opened the bag I discovered that it had been cut into 15 pieces, 1/2 a yard each.  That's why the price was so low!  I have no idea what I'll do with it now.... You get what you pay for!!  LOL

Princess dress for a steal?

My daughter LOVES to play princess and she always wants me to make her a dress.  My current project for her is an Elsa dress.  Meanwhile, I found this chifon dress for a $1 that I decided that I could make a few adjustments to and turn into a princess dress for her.  She absolutely loves it and can't wait until I finish it.  I'll post the finally pics soon!

Magnet board

For a while now, I've been wanting a place to hold my patterns when I sew.Well, I finally found it. At a recent craft fair I saw a magnet board that was being sold as a place for posting notes so I took that idea  to use for hanging my patterns.  I bought 2 cookie sheets at the dollar store, taped them together and covered them. Now I don't have to struggle with my pattern falling on the floor or losing my place on it!!

Dress form

I've been wanting a dress form for a few months but just hadn't purchased it.  Yesterday, I saw a yard sale so I stopped...that's when I saw the mannequin.  They were asking $10 for it, needless to say, I bought it.

Unfortunately, it came without a stand so I had to find/make one.
I went to the Restore and found a torch lamp for $5. I cut the electric cord out and unscrewed the top part of the lamp. I attached the mannequin to a lamp handle and inserted it into the lamp stand.  WA-LA my mannequin has a stand!!

Too good to pass up

While shopping in a local store, I found a sale rack.  It had some really cute maxi dresses on it for the bargain price of (drum roll please) $3.  I had to buy them because I knew that I couldn't make the dress for that price. So, here's where the sewing part comes in....they are all way to long for me so I have to use my "skills" to alter them plus add shoulder straps.

I had already started altering this one when I remembered to take the pic.
(Yes, I need to buy a dress form;o)
